“Water Story”

I thought to re-present and blog this article “Water Story” now, partly because here in Sydney it is winter, which is the season that correlates to the element water in Chinese Five Element Theory, but also because globally these are uncertain and frightening times – the water organs Kidneys being associated with security and so the realms of home, work, community and family, and Urinary Bladder associated with fear and anxiety.

I begin with an introduction that looks back to when I began to formulate the ideas set in the main article. Through this time, from about the mid-1980’s on, the exponential rise in our population, which reflects so much of our impact on Earth, was still climbingthough the rate of increase had slowed.

Hans Rosling (Don’t Panic — The Truth about Population” BBC 2 documentary Nov 2013) eloquently presents how birthrate is settling towards two world wide for each reproductive couple, which would replace them without adding to their numbers, but which means the world population will fill out with those that will age to a modern life expectancy, so that while they grow old, population could continue to grow past our current almost 8 billion towards 11 billion. While environmentally, any such numbers may be unsustainable – we refer to comets and volcaniic eruptions of the past mass extinctions for perspective over our current situation – Rosling points economically to a civilized equality – if those in the $100/day developed world could ease off jet travel towards the level of just cars and $10/day motor bikes, and those below poverty and $1/day bicycle economy could rise towards the $10/day motor bike level.

At any rate, this is not the direction we have been and are heading in.

Introduction to “Water story” – July 2020

I began to form the ideas set forth in this article on water intake in the mid 1980’s, when Jane Fonda’s Water Diet and aerobics was “in”, and PET bottles of water were coming to the fore (Coke and Pepsi in “single use” PET bottles from 1978).

The Cold War was nearing its end (1989). The Berlin Wall still divided Germany, Russia occupied Afghanistan, and Gorbachev was trying to keep the restructuring of the Russian economy – perestroika was also “pepsi-stroika” – under control. Japan was growing its “bubble economy” (burst 1992), and computerization and digitization was underway, with America firmly in grip of it.

Western modern and urban lifestyle, with its social, cultural and health effects, was continuing to spread over the world. The world wide trend, of people’s exodus from rural regions to cities, was also underway in China since after Mao’s Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution (Mao died in 1976), and with Deng Xiaoping’s Economic Reform and Open-Door Policy – together with the “flow” there too of America’s cola drink, Coca-Cola (Pepsi in Russia).

Threat of nuclear war and destruction had eased, but financial, resource and environmental concerns were yet clearly defined. We had gone through Oil crises (pl. 1973 and ‘79) and were trying to come to terms with possible limited reserves of resources in general. However, the big financial bubbles were yet to form and burst.

Physicists looked to a single formula that combined Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. Philosophers still held hopes for truth beyond empirical probability, sociology and chaos. Prospectors mined the rift between economics and finance, their claims to value soon to be staked on the double ledger, in credit and debt bubbles, completely bereft it seems from bricks and mortar. Politicians used “political correctness” like a ball in a game, to compete between the left and right, which eventually blurred their differences (the left and right), and which only affected matters that were politicized (namely race and gender), nor were these addressed beyond accountability and correct terminology, for inequality seems to have re-surfaced as systems, human, technological and natural, are now strained. People were leaning about nature and pollution, sought their “roots” and considered other cultures and sustainability, while those in the developed world continued to jet about, as if to take it all in before disappearing, while still trying to “move up” in the world.

Governments managed the economy, apparently. Central Banks, debt and corporations still seemed to be under their sway – seemingly accounted for, economically in trade, exchange and settlement. Though for some suspiciously un-accountable, the financial creation of value and money and what they are based on (speculative), most didn’t care as long as it, money and credit, “flowed”. And it did flow, faster and more with communication or information technology, and with computer programmes (automated or algorithmic trading) raking in prospective profits behind the scenes of speculative business. Increased transactions in themselves raises GDP. There was hope for a better world and future. Environmental threat was still a matter of debate or documentaries. Consumerism, progress and development buoyed the sense of value in currency.

Health wise, there were inroads being made into cancer and cardio-vascular disease, in association with advances in genetic mapping and analysis, imaging (MRI scans) and micro-surgical and mechanised techniques. The Pritikin diet was “in” in the 80’s of high fibre and low fat and cholesterol for the prevention of cardio-vascular disease (yet to distinguish the different cholesterols, and before statin drugs for lowering them), and by-pass surgery was becoming more readily available. There was also growing recognition of stress and the importance of hydration for the human individual.

There has since been a sort of commercial and consumer sophistication in health and well-being that is more and more technical and technological, strongly influenced by developments in our civilization with digital technology. Reliance on these, specialized products, procedures and information, takes us further away from our innate physical and organic basis.

While my work, on the human condition and Reality (hc.R), pursues our relationship as part, with one’s Whole Being – Who, in the real world of Reality, transcendent beyond our reality of notion and sense, of conscious experience and self, is embodied, alive and next to other Whole Beings and Whole entities of Reality – and is presented elsewhere, I find still very pertinent today the approach presented in the article to follow, for the intake of water. Water is a fundamental and integral part of Earth and life on it from before computers, PET bottles, exercises and cities.

I would also add to “Water Story”, now nearing 40 years after its initial consideration, the following, which has become more relevant to me and my aging peers :
There may be fear of a full bladder and timely access to a toilet, especially when not at home. The morning bolus is the one of usual concern. I find it passes in two “visits”, one at home soon after breakfast and before leaving home, and the second after commuting and arriving at a destination. Otherwise, a regular and decent filling and flow (rather than dribble) is good both for the bladder and sphincters, in a similar way to the “good stress” described in the main text to follow.
There may be problems dealing with the fluid load for those in heart or renal (kidney) failure, for which individual professional advise should be sought.

Water Story

It is recommended that a bolus (single large dose) of water be taken at morning and dusk each day for the rest of your life. Regulating the intake of the second most vital substance after air, is an easy way to establish a healthy tone and daily rhythm to your whole body.

Anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) plays a key role in the management of the body’s fluid ballance. As part of a generalized shut down for sleep, levels of the hormone are high during the night causing an anti-diuresis or production of low volumes of concentrated (dark) urine. The bladder is slow to fill so that ideally there is no need to get up during the night to empty the bladder.

Approaching dawn, the level of ADH in the blood dramatically lowers. The kidneys are then set for the passing of large volumes of weak (clear) urine or diuresis (as with diuretic drugs). After a nights shut down, the body is ready to be flushed, re-hydrated, and re-adjusted throughout its various “fluid compartments” within the body (generally intravascular and within and between cells but also in different glands, organs and tissues).

With the morning dose of water ideally taken at least 15 – 30mins before breakfast gastric, digestive and mucosal glands are readied for secretion. The rapid expansion and contraction of the stomach by the bolus dose and its rapid absorption and emptying, acts as an internal wake up stretch and is an effective stimulus for peristalsis (intestinal contraction that propel contents by its wave like propagation through the intestine) whose wave begins at the stomach.

1 pint (600ml) to 1 litre depending on age, gender and body size, is to be drunk steadily without too much of a break. Discomfort is often encountered and takes some minutes to pass. Stomach distention and pain indicate stomach weakness, liver strain may cause nausea and spleen weakness a faintness. The symptoms are from stress on the organs and may take weeks to months to settle. It is a good stress that tones the organs. Appetite and bowel movements are also stimulated.

Animals come to the water hole at dawn to fill their stores of water for the day and replenish it at dusk. Unless there is an excessive loss of fluids, as with sustained and intense physical strain or extreme heat, it is better to use up fluid stores and replenish them at the end of the day. Then, the kidneys and the body in general firm for activity during the day instead of becoming bloated or water logged if fluid is taken through the day without the distinction of intake and use; we can imagine core fluid compartments inert or flabby with lack of use and exercise if fluid is not moved and exchanged, stagnant while superficially becoming over sensitive to wet or dry.

Chinese medicine designates 3-5pm as urinary bladder time and 5-7pm kidney time. Emotion for the kidney is security, fear for bladder (incontinence in fear). The end of the day is the time to windup your tasks and take stock for the day, replenish your stores and settle. Fluid intake should not be necessary after dinner. The body is ready for the night’s closure with the return of rising levels of ADH.

In our modern lifestyle the natural cues of the daily cycle, of activity and light are numbed by transport, lighting, housing, programmed/personal entertainment and institutional work around the clock. Controlling your water intake is an effective way to introduce a natural cycle to one’s life. It is also a good way of establishing yourself in your time zone and place from jet lag, commuting as well as staying up.

Exponential Shock

Exponential

Where
are we

Where are
we with
Earth.

When will
we be
as of
Earth,
as what
we are,
part of
Who is
of Earth – one’s Whole Being,
also of Reality.

Through relation,
as part,
with one’s Whole ……

The Truth : Our being part, of one’s Whole.

The Tacit : To be part.

The Transcendent : One’s Whole Being, transcendent of our parts,
in the “also transcendent” real world of Reality.

and God : Reality. The One and Only Whole. Creation/Creator/Conscious/Conscience.
Of Which one’s Whole is of,
and, in our self and identity, together with the reality we are in,
we are also of, of Reality, God,
in being part of one’s Whole,
in the gendered Him or Her being of Reality.

Our reality shimmers with Reality and Life
in being projected part of
one’s Whole
being of Reality and alive.

No one can be sure

Nothing is certain except for our Truth – our self and conscious experience reality being part of one’s Whole Being, and our Whole Beings being of Reality, in the real world of Reality :

No one can be sure
just confident against sad
a quiet unassuming steadiness
easily stilted with fear, incited with rage,
chased by the subconscious to a consumptive dependence.

Much must then we put aside
that build up dark in the shadows
of our efforts that steal sustainability
we when lost from being part, from one’s Whole,
and democratic freedom empower those of critical mass.

Whether weather or well-being
we’re the issue en mass dependent
on networked mono-cultured streams that emanate
the exponential projectory peak, as had been foreseen, (quite accurately by 1940’s)
of our human numbers, progress, innovation and development.

From finite form and faculty
apparent diversity within each “corona-ed” field
our endeavours and specialties that propagate and determine
their particular concerns, with meaning and value – as quantum field its particle (syntax of grammar its participle, as biology its issues of life, as each field of study or endeavor propagates or “corona-s” as they determine their particular topics and items, as well as propagate them – self-referential and mutually dependent are fields and their particles, in their displacement, differentiation, determination and propagation, all within our Representational reality)
but no longer can we justify them Naive when all the while, within our reality Representational.

Too late it seems even for “de-growth”
as global homeostasis seems to have tipped
and we refer to past extinctions by asteroid or volcanoes
while reliance, for our problems and needs, on linear causality,
know how and can do, continues to create new wants and
 outcomes unintended.

Dependent on our systems, history and nature
though we may rebel against changes we’re born into
the evermore bureaucratic hold on our specie’s destiny
will not budge, even with anarchic struggle, against state, power and control,
for we innately challenge selective fate of Nature, unless we come to our Truth.
(we control and create our environment – avoid natural selection – and place our self suspended in experience, of the
world we create, denying the support and freedom from one’s Whole, and the Truth of our being part, of Who is in the environment or the real world of Reality rather than experience of it)

Gone with transcendence of one’s Whole
is the tacit and mystic truth of our being part
in one’s knowing, know how and notion and sense
of being and doing, existing and living in our reality – we are lost
while one’s Whole Being of breath, cells and action, lives in the real world of Reality.

While Earth exists and allows for our life-style
we may learn to partake in one’s living Whole Being
transcendent though He or She is, one’s Whole exists
in the real world of Reality, which we can affect and be reached by
through one’s Whole in becoming part, in our reality of
 conscious experience.

All our faculties come from beyond us, from one’s Whole – to be responsible and be in conflict, to be self and free, to thank and blame, to be conscious – as well as what we are conscious of, experience, think and feel.

Anatman and Atman

I have been preparing a little treatise on an introduction to “our actuality” – the fact of our reality (which itself is made of parts including our self or identity, what we experience, consciousness, deeper being) as a projected part of our Whole Being, projected through the brain and spinal cord (or CNS). “Orientation”, of our projected actuality, in space and with our Whole, establishes our representational reality as part of our Whole, Who in turn is a part of Reality (absolute) or the One-and-only-Whole (see elsewhere in this blog). For this Noam Chomsky’s linguistics and history of science and philosophy, as well as various descriptions and thoughts by others on emergent phenomena has been particular considerations for the last month or so.

I was noticing a comment on Daniel Everett’s work (linguist who lived and worked with some South American natives, initially as a missionary and subsequently converted from Christianity), which questions the recent views of language as an innate and universal human property (generative grammar originated by Chomsky). In contrast Everett considers us moulded by culture (and language) and, as Aristotle described, the mind as a blank slate rather than preset. What really took my attention, however, is the Buddhist and Hindu concept of “anatman” that Everett considered most compatible with the notion of the human self.

I take a sidestep from my recent activities and comment here on this and other Sanskrit terms with Orientation and reference to our representational reality (or indirect realism) within which we, as self or identity, identify directly with what we experience of perception and thinking, our sense and notion, as if they are real (naive or direct realism).

Atman and Brahman are Sanskrit terms familiar to many in our cosmopolitan world, even if they are not Hindu. Those that practice Yoga or meditation may have come across the terms in studying some of the philosophy behind the practices. That is how I first learned of the terms in the following phrase : “Atman and Brahman are one”.

Poem Straight up JUn17 (5) 1Atman is translated Self or True Self, and Brahman God. I have come to appreciate the terms and phrase in this way : Atman is the Whole Self Who is of Reality. Brahman is Reality (absolute) or the One-and-only-Whole. Atman, as part of Reality, displaces Reality so that there is no Reality but rest of Reality; Reality is transcendent of Atman but is immanent in (or permeates) Atman, for Atman being part of Reality. And in being part, Atman carries the essence of both His or Her Self and Brahman as the one spirit at His or Her core (Atman’s); the Atman and Brahman are one in spirit.

whole rest partAnatman is translated “non-self”. I consider it the self or identity within our representational reality, which is a part projected through the Central Nervous System of our Whole. Our Whole Self is part-less and transcendent of our part as any whole is of their parts. This is because a part displaces the whole to leave the rest of whole, as indicated in the diagram.

In Hindu tradition Atman is similarly understood to be formless and part-less (ie. whole), whose true nature cannot be perceived. It is said that to comprehend the difference between Anatman and Atman, between our projected part and our Whole, is to become liberated.

There is the famous practice of the self talk “Neti, neti, netior “not this, not this, not this“. The idea of negating Anatman, itself being a negation or non-self (suffix an-), is to realise the supposedly permanent and unchanging Atman.

My recent approach repeats this negation but then refer indirectly to our transcendent Whole thus :
“Not this, not that, not us
Not that, not it, not me.
Everything is a part,
of my part-less Whole Being.”

Of Nothing we exist

Of Nothing we exist –
that Nothing is our Whole
absence in our part,
our part-less Whole.

Of Life we exist –
emergent of time
cosmos and Earth,
transcendent of our part.

Trust, be grateful –
He or She immanent in our part
our business, monies, questions and purposes,
in our being part.

Not this, not that, not us, as self or identity –
our everything is a part
of our part-less Whole Being,
next to other Wholes of Reality.

Lost and found X-mas cheer

Re-posted from a year ago : Compare with this year’s new year entry (previous post https://realityhc.wordpress.com/2019/01/01/the-self-and-what-is-it-to-be-human/), for progress through our exponential curve – where whether we affect the weather, or not, is hard to tell from weather models, whose reports cannot see that far into the future, because the models are formed by us from within it (the weather; with stations, ballons and various probes to monitor it from within it), and sun spot  activity affects it, grossly from without it; but human activity we know affects Earth, in exponential ways and so must affect weather at least around the cities, whose air, grounds, vegetation, water, tempretures and  hazy skies we know are affected  with more people living and commuting in it, and moving to it, more and more. We near the end of this Rooster year. Proud cocky does not like its feathers ruffled. So much exposed, of finance, politics, globalisation and its culture, the environmental situation and our attitudes and responses. Human history and the Earth’s merge in the climactic (including what is climatic) exponential curve .

I see the showy Rooster plucked, as if ready for a X-mas dinner. At least in Sydney, it seems sombre. It was quiet in the shops, both of shoppers and X-mas decoration.

Next year is the year of the Dog. Our passage through the exponential curve must involve fundamental changes, like the crossing of the river Styx (across into the land of the dead). In at least a few cultures including the Egyptian, the Dog is said to be our guide in this.

Faithful companion by our side, lick our part and point to who is human, alive in Reality on Earth under heaven, our whole whose being is next to yours.

While the Earth sustains our life-style and our individual whole is alive, we may contemplate our part and end, but also be in relation with the one who is alive and on Earth, next to other living whole beings, and who will die.

This year will be the Pig – woof woof and oink.

The development of AI (artificial intelligence) has moved the boundary between the subjective and objective in our reality, objectifying so much of our mental functioning that are mechanical or computer-like, though previously thought of as cognitive, creative, communicative (ripe to be “connective”, to love, consume and demand the technologies that augment our reality but also what is augmented; we consummate in our augmentation with technology), clever, curious and human. This encroachment creates a new impetus and interest to the age old question, “What is it to be human?” (Note 2 – AI and our humanity).

Last paragraph of section 3 The subjective aspects of our reality; “Our reality and Reality” orig blgd 16Oct17, re ed June, Dec18

Expanding the bracket above:

The human condition is communicative.
We gawk and talk, are ripe to be “connective”,
to love, consume and demand the technology
that augment our reality, and what is augmented;
we consummate, in our augmentaion with technology.

Also from section 3 The subjective aspects of our reality :

We loose sight of our self like Alice
chasing the back of the Rabbit (through her tunnel),
in trying to experience, the experiencing self.
Rather than risk extinguishing our self,
we must
distinguish instead objective and subjective aspects
of our having-an-experience reality,
and not chase the subjective end of the “apparatus”
in self-referencing; like a dog
after its tail.

I will post the first three sections (to 3 The subjective aspects of our reality) of Our reality and Reality” orig blgd 16Oct17, re ed June, Dec18 next.

Right

Right

It is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong”

Voltaire

And established culture considers the following true-

I am it”, the self is a definitive entity. (But there are many, different aspects and is a part of its whole).

Nothing to distinguish our reality from Reality and from story and sense.

Nothing to distinguish the world itself from the world we experience.

Nothing to distinguish our realities except in terms of perspective (senses) and points of view (story), rather than as parts of an individual whole being distinct from other wholes in and of Reality)

There is no absolute Reality. Even if there is Reality, we can never know or experience it. (Not directly, can be in relation with as part and in our actuality).

God is a matter of belief and faith. (One and only whole, Reality, Creator and Creation of causality)

Actuality Reality

Genderisation

We are genderised in our self and identity. We consider our self male or female, though we may question this and perhaps choose to change it.

While we identify in our self and our genderisation, we are in fact a part, together with all that we experience of others and the world, of our whole being. And our whole being, who is in and of Reality, is the one who is gendered.

I am hoping this quick examination of our genderisation help clarify two distinctions, between our self and our whole self, and between our reality and Reality. They are considered throughout my work which tries to establish “actuality”, our existence in fact as projection, projected through the CNS (Central Nervous System) by our whole being.

message 02.jpgProjection distinguishes and help define our reality of conscious experience and self witnessed as a projected part of our whole, our self as a projected part within our projected reality, and our whole self as who projects our reality including our self.

Reality itself or absolute Reality is what our whole self is of. Also the one and only whole, our whole being is of Reality, and through him or her we, as self or identity, together with our genderisation, are a part of Reality.

While any whole is beyond or transcendent of its parts, in our actuality, we may be in relation with our transcendent and gendered whole being of Reality as a projected part.

Inside a paper bag

A guided orientation – aspects of our reality are orientated in space, in their “actuality”.

It’s like being in a brown paper bag for us, as self or identity, within our reality of conscious experience and self witnessed*.

brown paper bag 1

as captured from above

The crinkled surface to our front is what we predominantly experience as vision. We are in a fold pushed into the paper bag from its left.

There is no boundary to our right where empty space comes in, nor to the vacuous displacement behind that is the witness. The conscious is above us and our deeper sense of being extends below both again with no boundary. These aspects or regions seem to extend indeterminably for us, but exist within the paper bag that is our reality. What is determinable is our front facing self in the fold from the left, and what we experience to the front of the bag.

Within our paper bag we cannot see or experience the whole bag or the whole self of whom our reality (our paper bag) is a part, much like not seeing the forest from the trees. However, we can be a part in our actuality* and be in relation with our whole as part, just as in being a part of a tree that part is a part of the forest.

In our actuality within our reality, a part of our whole being who in turn is a part of absolute Reality or the one and only whole.

*
Our reality is conscious experience and self witnessed.

Actuality is our existence in fact as a projected part, projected by our whole being through the CNS (Central Nervous System).

The witness is the displaced part to the manifestant parts of our reality that include the self and what is experienced. We are aware of what the witness witnesses, which includes the self by which we can be self aware. It occupies the vacuous space behind what we experience (front) and the experiencing self (back).

Our reality and Reality 6/6

Sixth of six parts to the article.

The theory and background to “actuality” our existence in fact as  part projection of our whole being of Reality, projected through the Central Nervous System.

7Orientation” – to the human condition and Reality, hc.R

Beyond what is presented in this background article there is more to “actuality” of our reality as part and projection, and more in referring to our whole being of Reality. I hope however to at least begin to establish our actuality as projected part. People as part in their self and identity should find interest in their actuality and relation with their whole being of Reality.

The approach is Orientation” to the human condition and Reality. Our projected actuality is orientated in space, and with our whole self and being of Reality.

Introduced is the transcendent whole. He or she (gendered) is the universal basis for our existence and processes as projected part. Universal because everyone as self or identity, has a whole they belong to as part and be in relation with.

The process is integration, for both the projected part and its whole. The transcendent living whole being is more whole with integrating rather than isolated parts. Integration for part and whole is underpinned by the immanence of Reality in all parts, through their whole being of Reality.

zzw.jpgWe change in dimension and state in our reality, but it is not for us to be the transcendent whole or reach Reality. Rather, we are to be in relation with our whole who is of Reality and in Reality touched by the rest of Reality.

The essence, substance and fields of all human endeavours and practices may said to be delivered with Orientation, from government through study (science and philosophy, all social studies), practice and performance (including work and physical tasks, all exercise).

Applied in our projected actuality as piece in its place as part of its whole, we be part of our whole being of Reality, among other whole entities who are present in the present where human endeavours are done, including the things we think we do in our projected reality, in Reality.

We as self or identity in the human condition are in a projected reality of conscious experience and self witnessed. In our actuality as projection we are part of our whole being of Reality.

Through our whole, our deepest sentiments flow. Through our transcendent whole godly being we become immanent of Reality as a projected part of our whole. Gratitude, reverence and the giving of thanks, our sacrifice or subjugation, wonderment and inner enquiry, despair and the reaching for help, struggle with vengeance or against betrayal, the gathering of power, its purpose and release, the incomplete surfaces and spaces of our projected reality.

Only through our whole because we are part, can we be free and independent as a part. Supported and opened, broken and born, lead and realised, strong and uncertain, in our whole’s encompassing embrace that reaches and infuses our reality’s breadths, depths, and extent, in our being part.

Lastly, our actuality implies a cosmology, diagrammed below with description, and to three statements we can make within our reality. They indirectly refer to our truth as part and to our transcendent whole, who “must be there” in Reality :

Message : “Everything is a part; in everything is our whole”
Everything of our self and what is experienced or sensed, is a projected part of our
whole being. In every part is the presence or essence of their whole.

Instruction : “Everything is material for referring to one’s whole”
For one’s everything being a part of one’s whole. Our reality includes positive and negative states, and all their possible purposes and processes.

Goal : “Look to a relation with one’s whole”
In all that we may become, achieve or get to, because our reality
includes all that we may be and experience, and is a part of our whole.
